Southern California Scattering Locations

A Journey With Wings can release cremated remains (ashes) anywhere that the family has obtained written permission. We have obtained blanket letters authorizing us to perform our services over some of the most beautiful locations in Southern California. Our current locations include:

Southern California Coast

A Journey With Wings will perform scattering services anywhere along the Southern California Coast. The law requires that we be at least 500 yards from the shoreline. Many families choose to witness this scattering from a pier or the shoreline. The airplane is clearly visible and the scattering can be seen easily. Many families choose this option to accommodate an unlimited number of friends and family. This makes it possible for an unlimited number of family members and friends to view the event.

Catalina Island

This serene, tropical paradise is located 25 miles across the sea from the Los Angeles and Orange County coastlines. Catalina features breathtaking views of the beautiful blue Pacific Ocean, brilliant sunsets, and San Clemente Island. A 30-minute scenic bus ride will put viewers at the Catalina Airport, high atop the island, to view the scattering. For obvious reasons, sunset is a very popular time choice.

Santa Monica Mountains

This location is part of the National Park Service, alive with trees and streams. From here, there are magnificent views of downtown Los Angeles as well as Zuma Beach. Scatterings can be witnessed from one of the many hiking trails in the park, or the beautiful Zuma Beach.

Santa Ana Mountains/Saddleback

The Santa Ana Mountains, known as Saddleback to those who live in southern California, is home of the Cleveland National Forest. Our exact release location is on the "Saddle" of Saddleback on the west (sunset) side of the mountain range at an altitude of about 4000 feet. Overlooking Orange County, Saddleback offers spectacular panoramic views stretching from Huntington Beach to Catalina Island. Families can witness this scattering from O'Neill Park, located near the base of Saddleback Mountain.

Southern California Special Scattering Locations

We realize that some families have special locations in mind where they would like to release their loved one's cremated remains (ashes). We can perform our service anywhere we get written permission to do so. Below is a guide on how some governing agencies handle the scattering of cremated remains (ashes). Please realize that these agencies may change their policy at any time. Our general experience is as follows:

State Parks

The California State Park System has adopted an ordinance, which allows for scattering within their parks. Each park has the final authority to grant permission to release cremated remains (ashes) within their borders. Some State Parks have Native American burial sites and archaeological sites that must be avoided. Click here to visit the California State Parks website which lists all of the California State Parks.

Indio Hills State Park - Nestled between Joshua Tree National Park and Palm Springs, this natural habitat boasts views of the entire Coachella Valley.

New Locations

We have recently expanded our scattering locations to include service to Red Rock Canyon, Las Vegas, and the Sierra Nevada, Tahoe/Reno area. Photos and details will soon be added.

National Parks

Many National Parks will allow the scattering of cremated remains (ashes). As with the state park system, each individual national park gives the final authority.

National Forest

Currently the National Forest Service does not allow the scattering of cremated remains (ashes). However, most national forests contain private property located within their boundaries and arrangements can often be made to accommodate the requests of our clients.

Private Property

A Journey With Wings will perform our services over any private property where we have written permission, there are no restrictions on the overlying airspace, and the location is identifiable on a map. We will do everything in our power to accommodate special requests while working within any restrictions placed upon us.
