In California more than 50% of people choose cremation. There are a number of reasons for this. One has to do with protecting the environment. Cremation and scattering saves land. Cremation plays no role in the loss of the two square miles that are tuned into new grave space each year. That's about 32 square feet per casket. According to Kenneth Iserson, author of “Death to Dust”. Cremated Remains are sterile, and therefore have no affect on the environment when scattered.

We release the cremated remains (ashes) into the air, allowing currents of wind to guide them on a final journey. Many of the cremated remains (ashes) will descend to the earth below. Others are free to travel far and wide. Every cool breeze that you feel can bring memories of your loved one.
Unlike burial or scattering by a boat, scattering by airplane is truly scattering. The cremated remains are free to travel with the winds.
Because we use an airplane, we can release cremated remains (ashes) in locations that others cannot, such as over mountains, State Parks, National Parks and Conservancies. Your loved one can scattered in more than one location. Cremated remains (ashes) can be infinitely divided. Your loved on can be scattered over all of their favorite locations.
A Journey With Wings offers several witnessing options. Families can watch the scattering from the ground or join us in the airplane.. Family and friends of the decedent are always welcome to meet us at the airport and watch us as we depart toward the chosen location.
